Have you noticed just how irresponsible, inconsiderate and insensitive some of these major corporations have been lately? I’m not even sure if it’s not all a publicity stunt, because I can’t believe that someone could be this stupid on purpose.
Adidas, is the latest company to pull a product from the market because of it’s racial undertones. Their new “JR Roundhouse Mid” features orange plastic shackles attached to gym shoes, that look similar to the shackles that were around the ankles of slaves. The shoe is not on the market yet so Adidas went to their Facebook page to get the buzz flowing by attaching a photo with a caption that read,“Got a sneaker game so hot you lock your kicks to your ankles?
After a flood of bad publicity Adidas heard the outcry of the public and issued this statement, “Since the shoe debuted on our Facebook page ahead of its market release in August, Adidas has received both favorable and critical feedback. We apologize if people are offended by the design and we are withdrawing our plans to make them available in the marketplace. The design of the JS Roundhouse Mid is nothing more than the designer Jeremy Scott’s outrageous and unique take on fashion and has nothing to do with slavery. Any suggestion that this is linked to slavery is untruthful.”
Do you mean to tell me, that in a company the size of Adidas no one addressed the fact that this shoe could be deemed racist?
