If you’re a fan of the movie ‘Love & Basketball,’ then you will definitely enjoy the latest movie written and directed by Gina Prince-BytheWood called ‘Beyond the Lights’ starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw. Prince-BytheWood does a great job telling the story of a rising star in this romantic drama that has to deal with the pressure and pitfalls associated with being an entertainer in the music industry. The movie tells the story of “Noni, the music world’s latest superstar. But not all is what it seems, and the pressures of fame have Noni on the edge – until she meets Kaz Nicol, a young cop and aspiring politician who’s been assigned to her detail. Drawn to each other, Noni and Kaz fall fast and hard, despite the protests of those around them who urge them to put their career ambitions ahead of their romance. But it is ultimately Kaz’s love that gives Noni the courage to find her own voice and break free to become the artist she was meant to be.” Being true to yourself and finding your own voice is the only way to truly make it, not just in the entertainment industry…but life. For many years I had a dream to be on the red carpet interviewing celebrities and interesting people, but for some reason the opportunities didn’t seem to come my way. Not one to give up on my dream, I became a blogger and a product presenter traveling the country giving presentations in front of a live audience for years. I felt as an entertainment & lifestyle blogger Icould still follow my dreams but by using a different platform and I could use my unique voice to reach out to the masses. And as a product presenter, I could talk live in front of an audience and develop my speaking & communication skills, which eventually led to me doing interviews on TV for my company. I never realized that I was actually moving closer to my dream until my mother pointed out that although I wasn’t on the red carpet, I was still accomplishing my goals and this was all a part of the training and preparation needed for the next phase of my life. That’s why it’s so important to use everything in life as a learning experience because you never know how those skills will come in handy for the future. Before I knew it I was living in LA, however I didn’t relocate for my career but just for a lifestyle change. Then one day, six months ago thanks to the urging of a friend I did a few Social-Soundoff videos on Instagram for the entertainment show ‘The Insider’ just for fun and since that day I have been on the red carpet as a Social Media Correspondent for ‘The DayTime Emmy Awards’,’ BET Awards’, ‘Britannia Awards’ and in the Entertainment Tonight studios live Tweeting for ‘The Emmy Awards’. It took some time to get to this point, but I never gave up on my dream and you shouldn’t either. Don’t judge your life based on what you see other people doing, the only competition you have is the person you look at every day in the mirror. So if you want to be inspired to follow your own voice make sure you go see the movie ‘Beyond TheLights’, in theaters November 14, 2014.
