Diana Ernestine Earle Ross March 26, 1944
The “Original Diva” Diana Ross was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 26, 1944. In 1959 she joined her first girl group The Primettes with Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard, but she had her eyes on bigger things. Legendary singer Smokey Robinson was a neighbor of hers, so she asked him to line her up a audition with Berry Gordy from Motown and the rest is history. Ms. Ross has enjoyed a successful career as one of The Supremes and as a solo artist.
I have always been a fan of her music, but I really love her as an actress. In The Wiz she eased on down the yellow brick road as Dorothy, played a model in Mahogany and sang the blues as Billie Holiday in Lady Sings the Blues and she truly embraced the essence of ever character she played.
Ms. Ross is still performing and started the fifth leg of her US tour More Today Than Yesterday: The Greatest Hits Tour in February 2012.
