TNT’s hit crime drama Rizzoli and Isles is back for a new season and to build your anticipation for all the action here’s a recap of last season’s finale.

The final episode of season 2 opens with a massive fire at a denim factory that lead to the death of a firefighter. Rizzoli and Isles soon appear on the scene to investigate the fire and begin to lean toward it being considered a crime of arson and not just an accident.

After learning of the five sexual harassment lawsuits against the factory owner, Rizzoli brings him in for questioning. While speaking to him and his lawyer, who so happens to be his daughter, little bits of his personality begin to unravel and reveal just how unsympathetic he is toward the deceased firefighter and the women he allegedly assaulted.

Later on that evening Maura and her adoptive mother Constance leave the Ivory Table restaurant after enjoying a great evening together. Minutes after her mother began to express how she wished she would have spent more time with Isles, bright headlights speed toward them, hitting the mother head-on after she pushes Isles out of harms way.

While at the hospital, Isles gets an unexpected visitor…her biological father, Patrick “Paddy ” Doyle. Although she wants nothing to do with him, he’s there checking on her and her adoptive mother, but why? She wants him to leave but he has information that he wants to share with her regarding her biological mother, which she fuses to entertain.

In the middle of the episode Rizzoli finally has a little one-on-one time with Gabriel Dean. The next day they wake up in each others arms, but almost ruin the moment talking about FBI fugitive Paddy Doyle.

The crime begins to unfold when a key component from the heater Isles was working on in the lab, and traces of the cough syrup found on the victims mask, are located inside the vehicle that hit Isles’ mother.

The clues to finding the arsonist lie within the walls of the destroyed factory. Realizing this, Isles comes up with a plan to lure the suspect to the crime scene. He arrives as planned, admits his guilt and attempts to shoot her. However, before he can fire off a successful round, Paddy Doyle shoots the suspect then Gabriel shoots Paddy; Paddy returns fire on Gabriel and Rizzoli shoots Paddy sending him on a free fall to his death. Wow…so much action and drama!

Season 2 literally ended with a bang and I can’t wait to see what the dynamic duo of Rizzoli and Isles has in store for the new season on Tuesdays 9/8c on TNT.

Based on characters created by best-selling crime novelist Tess Gerritsen, RIZZOLI & ISLES stars Angie Harmon as Jane Rizzoli, a tough-as-nails Boston police detective, and Sasha Alexander as Maura Isles, a smart, impeccably dressed medical examiner from a privileged background. Despite being complete opposites, the two women share an offbeat chemistry and strong working relationship that has helped them bust some of Boston’s most notorious criminals.

Rizzoli & Isles returns Tuesday, June 5th at 9pm on TNT.
