Derek Sanderson Jeter, June 26, 1974

Today New York Yankee Derek Jeter celebrates his 38th birthday and although I don’t know much about Derek as a professional baseball player, I do know him as a student I attended high school with in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The first time I met Derek was in my Earth Science class, he was a freshman and I was a junior. I just so happened to be in this particular class  because I needed a few more credits to graduate early my senior year.

I also saw him a lot during extra curricular activities after school because I was a varsity cheerleader and he played freshman basketball. Now, that was over 20 years ago and although he may not remember me after all this time it’s still exciting to see all the amazing things that has transpired over his life.

This is how I remember him over 20 years ago!
