I’m wearing L’Oreal True Match Foundation (N8) and blush (W7-8)
Have you ever purchased foundation at a retail chain, only to be disappointed when you got home because the shade didn’t match? I think the majority of us have experienced this scenario at one time or another. Over the years I have chosen to buy makeup from department stores rather than mass retailers for the simple fact that I could try it on before I left the store. L’Oreal understood the plight of women from diverse backgrounds who experience this over and over again and resolved the issue by creating L’Oreal True Match Super-Blended Makeup and the Matchmaker App for the iPad and iPhone.
Before I took my trip to the local Target I used their new app first to help me find my True Match. I answered a series of 9 questions in a variety of categories ranging from the way my skin reacts to sun exposure to the shades I think closely match my skin-tone.
Steps 1-8 were designed to help me find my undertones so I could find out what shade would look best on my skin and before I new it, I was on Step 9.
The suggested shade (W9.5) appeared to be just a little darker than my skin-tone so before I took a trip to the store I also looked at the ‘Beauty Matchmaker’ section on the L’Oreal website, which also helped me find my ‘True Match’ based on the shade of foundation I currently wear.
I found a list of 13 manufacturers to choose from and although I did find the cosmetic brand I use, I would like to see L’Oreal add a few more competitors who cater to women of color.
When I entered the cosmetics section of Target I was truly impressed by the rainbow of shades stocked on the shelves. The True Match Super-Blendable makeup was divided into cool, neutral and warm undertones with 33 shades ranging from from very fair to deep to choose from. I looked at the foundation that was suggested, but found a few colors that appeared to match my complexion a little better. I eventually settled on the shade, ‘Cappuccino’ (N8) and a blush that was suggested for me on the Matchmaker App in ‘Soft Sun’ (W7-8) and went home to try on my new purchases.
The foundation offered great coverage without feeling heavy and the blush was absolutely perfect for my skin-tone. I also like the packaging for the blush because it comes equipped with a mirror and a mini blush brush.
Savvy Features:
- 33 shades
- Divided into warm, cool & neutral undertones

Savvy’s Recommendation:
My recommendation is to answer the 9 questions (Steps) on the True Match Matchmaker App in front of a mirror with plenty of light. Visit a store that carries True Match Super-Blendable makeup and actually hold the bottle next to your skin. You have 33 opportunities to walk out of the store with your ‘True Match’ and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Find your True Match Here
True Match Matchmaker App allows you to find your precise True Match shade by determining your unique undertone and depth through a series of focused questions. Once you find your True Match shade you will be able to use the store locator feature to see which stores carry your shade as well as see who your celebrity undertone match is and get other product recommendations based on your unique shade!
