Speak Now: What Age is Too Young to Straighten a Baby’s Hair?

20120812-224723.jpg

When I first saw this photo on Green and Gorgeous I felt that this poor baby was just too young to have her hair straightened. Then I began to read the comments that were left on the Facebook page by the parent, and I became furious after seeing that this child was not even 5 months old yet. (which makes the whole situation even worse). I have to admit that I know many mother’s who have relaxed their daughters hair as toddlers because they felt it was to difficult to manage their kinky, curly texture. But I think less than 5 months old is the youngest I’ve ever heard of. First of all, who really cares about the texture of this baby’s hair, I’m sure she doesn’t. I also would like to know if a relaxer or flat ironed was used to get the results. ( I really hope a chemical was not used on her hair).

I want to know your thoughts on this photo and what age you feel is too young to straighten a baby’s hair?

  • Wow ~ I personally know someone who did this to their grandbaby and 20 yrs later the girls hair has never grown past 1 inch True story! Not a good decision.

  • Why must we feed into society ideals of beauty, and past these ideals onto our children. Why do we feel the gift the creator has already given is not beautiful AS IT IS.
