3 Ways I Ease Discomfort on That Time of the Month

It’s tough being a woman and although I can’t say I’ve known many reliable people over my life, one thing I can definitely count on to show up on time is my monthly cycle. Since I was 13 years old, every month I have received a visit from my “grumpy girlfriend”. And when “girlfriend” visits, she always comes on strong like a category 5 earthquake ready to shake up my life for five long days.

Even though at times I dread my monthly period, over the years I have found simple ways to ease the discomfort and make my life somewhat bearable.

Herbal Tea

I’m not a coffee drinker but I am a big fan of herbal tea. I usually drink herbal tea because it relaxes me and I just generally like the taste. After discovering that it also helps elivate some of the pain associated with my period, I started doing a little experimenting and that’s when I found out that drinking chamomile, fennel, ginger, or red raspberry tea helps to ease my cramps.

Heating Pad

Heat is a great way to ease some of my period pains and I try to use a heating pad every month. However, the main problems associated with heating pads are the size and the fact that they have to be plugged in. The majority of the heating units I’ve used over the years worked well while I was at home, but they were impossible to use in the work place. A few years ago a tried a sample HeatWrap by ThermaCare and I’ve been hooked ever since. The ultra thin heating patch is small enough to fit inside your panties and they stay warm for up to 8 eight hours.

Hot Bath/Porcelain Ottoman

I can’t think of anything more soothing on my time of the month than taking a hot bath. This is a must-have step to help me beat my period blues. Not only do I use the tub for baths but it also functions as my “porcelain ottoman”. Just elevating my legs and letting them rest on the edge of the bathtub has always worked wonders for my cramps.

Although it is inevitable that every month we will get a visit from our “grumpy girlfriend”, there are many ways to ease the discomfort that we face month after month.

How do you ease discomfort when you’re on your monthly cycle?

Always Maxi pads are designed to securely fit your curves. With a body hug fit, Always Maxi helps provide clean dry protection that’s also designed to fit. The LeakGuard(TM) core helps pull fluid deep into the middle of the pad, while the Deep All-Around Barriers help keep fluid away from the edges. Plus, the Flexi-Wings have been designed with stretchy pleats to flex with you as you move, allowing them to securely wrap around so that they help pads stay in place and help protect you against leaks.  Available in Regular, Super Long, and Overnight absorbencies.
